Join us as we honor the groundbreaking Viola Davis with Just Like My Child Foundation's 2017 Global Humanitarian Award for her dedication to the education and empowerment of vulnerable youth.

As the first black actor to win the Triple Crown of Acting, including a Tony Award, a history-making Emmy Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series for her work on How to Get Away with Murder, and three-time Oscar-nominated performances in The Help (2011), Doubt (2008) and her recent win for her role in Fences (2017), she is an inspiration to women and girls all around the world. Her willingness to share her journey of overcoming poverty inspire and influence us all. Her commitment to bettering our world through her work with the Hunger Is Foundation, Vaseline Foundation’s global initiative and her charitable support of educational programs.

Actress and Activist Regina Hall, Mistress of Ceremonies
Regina Hall has evolved into a powerful activist for Just Like My Child Foundation, bringing all manner of advocacy and assistance to the families and girls we serve. Star of Think Like a Man, Law Abiding Citizen, and Scary Movie, Regina Hall began her acting career in the late 1990’s while simultaneously earning a master’s degree from New York University. With numerous film and television credits to her name, Regina Hall has emerged as one of Hollywood’s most sought after comedic actresses. 

Most recently, Hall has starred in the TV series Grandfathered and Black-ish, in addition to Barbershop: The Next Cut. Hall also starred in About Last Night opposite Kevin Hart. For the filming of the documentary A Path Appears, she accompanied New York Times Op-Ed Columnist Nicholas Kristof to the Women’s Resource Center and Men Stopping Violence in Atlanta, Georgia. She has recently starred in When the Bough Breaks and The Best Man Wedding. She currently stars in the leading role of Girls Trip, this summer's comedy blockbuster with supporting actresses Jada Pinkett Smith and Queen Latifah, in theaters July 21st.

 Afterparty and Dancing with DJ Tendaji Lathan
A regular fixture on the Los Angeles club scene, Tendaji has done countless parties at L.A.'s hottest clubs. His vast knowledge and love of different musical genres makes him a hit with any any crowd, on any coast. DJ Tendaji has toured with Cedric the Entertainer, DJ'd for the Def Poetry Jam stage production in San Francisco and in New York on Broadway, and he's done a broad range of events with such industry heavyweights as Russell Simmons, Leo Dicaprio, Michael Jordan, Stevie Wonder, Mary J. Just Like My Child Foundation's annual galas have raised over one million dollars for the Girl Power Project since 2015. Honorary Chair-person

Mattie McFadden-Lawson

Scholar, philanthropist, and friend of the arts, Mattie McFadden-Lawson graduated magna cum laude with a Master’s degree from Howard University and holds a M.P.A. degree with honors from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government.

Her extensive work in the arts, government, women’s leadership, and political fundraising has established her as a leader in these areas. She currently sits on many boards, including the Music Center, Los Angeles County Arts Commission (on leave), as well as the Grammy Museum Board. In 2010, President Obama appointed her to the President’s Advisory Committee on the Arts at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. Her involvement in women’s leadership, politics, and political fundraising is an example of her leadership in the community, national, and international levels. She is a Co-Vice Chair of the 50 X 50 Leadership Circle of the Women in Public Service Project at the Wilson Center for International Scholars.

She is married to Ambassador Michael A. Lawson, a retired partner of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher, & Flom LLP. She is the proud mother of two sons, Michael Jr. and Jonathan.

Stephanie Ahoni

Stephanie Ahoni is the Director of Catering and Event Management at the SLS Hotel, Beverly Hills. Stephanie has spent the last 16 years as a Hospitality and Event Professional, managing event teams in Atlanta and San Diego for Starwood Hotels and Resorts. Prior to that, she spent eight years executing award winning events around the globe for pharmaceutical companies such as Abbott Laboratories and Takeda Pharmaceuticals. Youth education and access has always been a passion point for Stephanie and her greatest accomplishments have been the events that she has volunteered and chaired for the Girls and Boys Club and United Negro College Fund.

Maria Assaraf

Maria Middaugh Assaraf is CoFounder of NeuroGym, a brain research and development company that develops scientifically proven technologies for helping people expand their mental and emotional power to reach their fullest potential. Maria is a member of the Just Like My Child Foundation Board of Directors and is the Vice Chair of Rady Children's Hospital Foundation Board of Trustees. Her passions are traveling, cooking and spending time with her family.

Marni Battista

Marni Battista has a Masters in Education and is a Certified Life Coach by the International Coaching Federation. She is also a Master Practitioner at administering an Energy Assessment, “The D-Factor,” that helps clients pinpoint exactly why they are, or are not date-able, and what types of messages they are unconsciously broadcasting to others based on their thoughts, feelings, actions and attitudes. Marni is also trained as a Facilitator and Mentor Trainer by the Hoffman Institute, a world-renowned leader in personal development. Vivian Glyck

Vivian Glyck founded Just Like My Child Foundation (JLMC) in 2006 following the birth of her son, Zak. Through the experience of a mother's love for her child, Vivian woke up to realize the value of every human life. After learning about the horrific numbers of children dying from malaria and orphaned by the AIDS epidemic in Africa, Vivian was moved to make a difference. After 10 years of working on the ground in Uganda and Senegal, JLMC has seen firsthand that a girl with an education can shape her own destiny, lift up her family, and transform her community. The organization is now solely focused on the Girl Power Project® and committed to empowering vulnerable adolescent girls to stay in school, avoid forced child marriage, pregnancy, and gender-based violence.

Natalie Ledwell

Natalie Ledwell, author of the bestselling book Never in Your Wildest Dreams, is the host of The Inspiration Show and Co-founder of Mind Movies (www.mindmovies.com). Her journey has taken her from Australia to becoming one of the premier experts in the world on how to bring success and abundance into the lives of anyone who will embrace it.

Debbie Patillo

Debbie has committed her thirty-year career to bridging community leaders, business influencers and key organizations to each other to create impact. Armed with keen people skills and a plethora of critical relationships, she is one of the most effective and sought after marketing executives in the region. She has a unique ability to connect influential civic and community leaders to develop and maintain key relationships that strategically build valuable partnerships.   A one-time summer job led to a prolific professional career with American Airlines. Starting as a Reservations Agent, her tenacity, creativity and savvy management style resulted in a series of promotions leading to her most recent post, overseeing diversity marketing initiatives for Southern California. Known for her infectious energy, branding savviness and successful track record, Debbie was an invaluable leader of American’s Western Division Marketing team until her departure in June 2014.   Over the course of her career, Debbie designed and led inspiring community and social impact campaigns while simultaneously driving prominent exposure for American Airlines throughout Los Angeles and the United States. She has worked extensively with institutions such as the National Urban League, United Negro College Fund, U.S. Japan Council, U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Los Angeles Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Los Angeles Mara- thon, the Tournament of Roses, Big Brothers Big Sisters and the California African American Museum to promote corporate citizenship.   A proud Trojan, USC honored her with the Black Alumni Association Corporate Vanguard Award in 2004. Among her many honors, Pattillo received the Women Who Dared Award from the California Black Women’s Health Project and the Angel Award from St. Anne’s as a tribute to her continued commit- ment to the organization. Debbie’s community involvement includes serving as Tournament Director for the American Airlines Flagship Charities Golf Classic and on the board of the Los Angeles Urban League, The Magic Johnson Foundation, the Los Angeles area United Negro College Fund and St. Anne’s.

Trevor Sacco
Trevor Sacco

Trevor Sacco is the Chief Performance officer for Sacco Restaurant Group, an investment and consulting firm for the restaurant industry that works with companies on growth strategies, new concept design, increasing profitability, branding and structuring. Previously, Trevor was the COO for BiCE Restaurant Group, where he structured sustainable growth and infrastructure for a rapidly growing chain of restaurants across the US. He is a dedicated philanthropist, and has helped JLMC hold incredible fundraisers. He’s been a member of GenNext, an exclusive venture philanthropy group, since 2011.

Allison Samuels

Allison Samuels is an award winning author, producer and cultural consultant. Samuels spent 19 years as a National Correspondent and Senior Writer with Newsweek magazine where she covered politics, entertainment and sports. She’s authored several books including What Would Michelle Do, focused on the life of former First Lady Michelle Obama. Samuels’ work has appeared in Vanity Fair, Variety, Rolling Stone, Redbook, Essence, Ebony, and Wired magazines. In 2010 Samuels spent several months in the Volta region of Ghana teaching English and reading to second grade students through the volunteer aboard program, Cross Cultural Solutions.

Miriam Smotrich

Miriam Smotrich is a life-long humanitarian and philanthropist. A mother of three, she is a fashion and fitness expert and former drill sergeant in the Israeli Army and a champion European volleyball player.
